King and Queen of Sweden visit the Kamakura Living Lab

Visit by the King and Queen of Sweden, Working Day Wakaba, Kamakura City, 25 April, 2018.

The King and Queen of Sweden visited Kamakura Living Lab with Princess Takamadonomiya of Japan as part of their trip for the celebration of 150 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

ProfessorHiroko Akiyama first gave a brief explanation of Kamakura Living Lab, and then introduced products under development such as home office furniture devised for telecommuters and driver assistive AI systems to support independent driving by older persons.

The party moved to “Working Day Wakaba” and saw a demonstration of the communication assistive robot for people with dementia. “Working Day” is an innovative day service center which provides work for its users. People with dementia will receive support, but can also support the local community through activities such as park maintenance. The King and Queen listened and interacted enthusiastically with President Inada of Working Day Wakaba and the users. Many residents welcomed the royal guests despite the stormy weather.
